Redesigning the Interface of ATMs.
Why?
Design Challenge
ATM’s are objects interacted with not very often by individual user, but have high volume of quick interaction by numerous users. They facilitate speedy interactions with users, which create an interesting characteristic and challenge that differ from personal technology devices. However, the current interface design of most ATM prohibits these quick interaction with numerous clunky and unnecessary steps, as well as poor visual cues that require more mental dexterity to maneuver around the interface.
Design Opportunity
As a result, I took on the challenge of redesigning the ATM interface that streamlines the process by prioritizing most frequently used functions, and elevate interaction with interesting visual elements.
Current Design Problems
The current interface design is flawed with mixed visual hierarchy and poor visualization that makes it difficult to navigate
Not enough visual hierarchy to facilitate quick interactions
Visual information overload leading to unnecessary mental agility
Research
Surveyed 60+ participants
Participant demographic: age 18-35
Conducted 3 in-person interviews
Redesign Strategy
Modernize interface with modern design principles, layouts and elements
Streamline process by prioritize most used functions to improve visual hierarchy
Improve ease of use by incorporating visual iconography to aid with comprehension
Improve security with new SOS button and easy access exit button
